# FAQ and limitations ## FAQ ### Do sandboxes cost extra? No. You pay only for the workspace service's CPU, RAM and disk, see [pricing](/zbox/pricing). ### How many sandboxes can I run? As many as fit into the workspace: running sandboxes reserve their CPU and memory, parked ones only take disk. See [capacity](/zbox/workspace-settings#capacity). ### Can I change a sandbox's CPU or memory? No, the size is fixed when the sandbox is created, and forks and restores keep it ([create a sandbox](/zbox/lifecycle#create-a-sandbox)). Create a new sandbox with the size you need. ### Can I use my own image? Yes. Pull it from any registry or build it from a Dockerfile on the workspace, see [images](/zbox/images). ### Can a sandbox reach my database or other services in the project? Yes, in the default network mode, at `.zerops` ([project services](/zbox/networking#project-services)). Choose another [network mode](/zbox/networking#egress) to prevent it. ### How do I give an agent my Claude, GitHub or Codex login without the agent seeing the credential? Use a [connector](/zbox/connectors). For other APIs, use an [integration](/zbox/secrets#integrations). ### How do I show a web app running in a sandbox to someone else? Issue them a [ticket or a token](/zbox/networking#ingress-credentials) for the port, or make the port `public` ([access modes](/zbox/networking#access-modes)). ### Can I use VS Code or JetBrains with a sandbox? Yes, over SSH with the config block from `zbox ssh-config --install` ([SSH](/zbox/networking#ssh)). ### Can I run Docker inside a sandbox? Not yet, a fully working Docker integration is [coming soon](/zbox/docker). ### What happens to my sandboxes when the workspace restarts? Running sandboxes lose their memory, see the warning in [service lifecycle](/zbox/workspace-service#service-lifecycle). Park them before you restart, stop or resize the workspace. ## Limitations Zerops Box is in beta. These are the known limitations, each described where it applies. **Workspace** - A restart, stop or resize of the workspace doesn't park running sandboxes first: they lose their memory, and writes not yet on their disk ([service lifecycle](/zbox/workspace-service#service-lifecycle)). - Every resize restarts the workspace VM, and its disk can only grow ([resizing](/zbox/workspace-service#resizing)). - Zerops doesn't back up a workspace. Deleting the service deletes everything in it ([service lifecycle](/zbox/workspace-service#service-lifecycle)), and lineage export is [not available yet](/zbox/lineages#export-and-import). - One API key with full authority, no scopes or per-user keys ([API key](/zbox/access#api-key)). - After an API key rotation, the Zerops GUI and a logged-in CLI keep sending the old key until their access expires, an hour after its last use ([rotate the API key](/zbox/access#rotate-the-api-key)). - The web console can't be signed in to over plain HTTP, for example over the Zerops VPN ([web console](/zbox/access#web-console)). **Sandboxes** - The size of a sandbox is fixed, and its disk is 10 GiB ([create a sandbox](/zbox/lifecycle#create-a-sandbox)). Sandboxes don't reserve disk on the workspace ([what uses the disk](/zbox/workspace-settings#what-uses-the-disk)). - Idle and absolute TTLs are recorded but not enforced yet ([idle and absolute TTL](/zbox/lifecycle#idle-and-absolute-ttl)). - A sandbox whose VM stops on its own keeps showing `RUNNING` and keeps its reservation ([failed sandboxes](/zbox/lifecycle#failed-sandboxes)). - Removing a sandbox deletes its snapshots ([snapshots and restore](/zbox/lifecycle#snapshots-and-restore)). - A sandbox that received secrets can't be forked or snapshotted with memory ([secret-bearing sandboxes](/zbox/secrets#secret-bearing-sandboxes)). - Images must be `linux/amd64`. The guest kernel can't load modules and has no KVM ([the guest kernel](/zbox/images#the-guest-kernel)). - Docker inside a sandbox is [not supported yet](/zbox/docker). - On the workspace's API URL, a request ends after 60 seconds, so a longer `zbox exec` with the API key fails while its command goes on; use a background process or the CLI logged in to Zerops ([long commands](/zbox/commands#timeouts-and-output-limits)). - A parked sandbox's background processes can't be read or interrupted through their sessions after the wake ([sessions](/zbox/commands#sessions)). **Networking** - Ports are HTTP only, raw TCP is [coming soon](/zbox/networking#ports). - A browser session opened with `zbox open` or a console port link ends after about a minute ([ingress credentials](/zbox/networking#ingress-credentials)). - An SSH connection ends when the sandbox is parked or snapshotted with memory ([SSH](/zbox/networking#ssh)). - Bare project hostnames don't resolve inside a sandbox, use `.zerops` ([project services](/zbox/networking#project-services)). - Egress rules take IPv4 addresses only, not domain names ([egress rules](/zbox/networking#egress-rules)). - Without a dedicated IPv4, connections to sandbox ports on your own domain are closed after about two minutes for IPv4 clients ([your own domain](/zbox/workspace-settings#your-own-domain)). - Uploads through the workspace's API URL are limited to 50 MiB, which matters for files and build contexts ([transfer files](/zbox/commands#transfer-files), [build a base](/zbox/images#build-a-base-from-a-dockerfile)).
